Job description

A brilliant Financial Controller opportunity with an International business based in Merseyside. Reporting to the FD, you will oversee the day-to-day financial responsibility for the business and drive operational improvement and efficiency, managing a team of 30+, including 5 direct reports.

Key responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the transactional and management accounting finance teams. Working alongside the FD in driving efficient and effective processing and providing a solid control environment.
  • Management and oversight of the cash, billing, accounts payable and credit control functions both in the UK and overseas.
  • Review and optimise all processes so that processing times are minimised, and accuracy is guaranteed.
  • Own the financial control environment and, through liaison with the Financial Compliance team, ensure that all applicable regulations are complied with.
  • Own the management and financial reporting processes maintaining accuracy and transparency in all account balances.
  • Effectively manage and lead the team.
  • Report on financial performance and focus on key issues/topics.
  • Provide insight and analysis into key aspects of performance, to highlight issues and drive improved behaviours.
  • Take responsibility for financial information and its output. 
  • Manage cashflow on a daily basis.
  • Own the forecasts and 3 year plans for P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow. 
  • Own the treasury function which consists of numerous bank accounts.
  • Lead central budget process including salary reviews and bonus setting.
  • Through liaison with the wider Finance team and embedded business group support, ensure day to day operational activities progress smoothly.
Essential skills and experience:
  • Experienced and Qualified Accountant – ACA, CIMA or ACCA
  • Experience in process change and system implementation
  • Experience of automating processes
  • Strong management skills - know how to get the best out of people
  • Management reporting – significant development experience of management information and KPIs
  • Management accounting – strong technical competence, familiarity and experience of KPIs
  • Financial reporting – strong technical understanding and application of applicable accounting standards
  • Team player / winner – demonstrable partnering skills
  • Bottom line focus – sharp focus on improving bottom line results
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Communicator / influencer – proven experience of working alongside / influencing key management, respected by colleagues in current and or previous roles
  • Demonstrable understanding of business and business objectives
  • Confident and competent presentation and report writing skills
Desirable:
  • Worked with international subsidiaries
  • Strong knowledge of VAT rules
