The Business
Recycling Lives are a fully commercial PE backed recycling business famed for their award-winning for-profit social enterprise that has contributed £8m worth of social value in recent years. They operate a fully-integrated business model that provides total waste management for corporates and local authorities and can process a range of material including scrap metals, electronic equipment, plastics and cardboard.
Background to Exercise
Recycling Lives were a rapidly scaling privately owned SME, that grew from £20m revenue in 2014 through to £85m in 2018. We worked with the then FD to help them recruit the right team for this first phase of growth.
In 2018, Three Hills Private Equity invested and took on an ambitious buy-and-build strategy conducting numerous acquisitions that took them to c.£200m in 2019. We then partnered with the new CFO to recruit his new team.
Our Response
Initial briefing – invested time up front to meet with the CFO to understand the vision and core objectives for the coming business cycle. We paid close attention to personality and character profiles that would suit the CFO and began going to market to represent him.
We worked through our extensive candidate and client network for referrals and recommendations and support from our research team to identify and approach the best talent on the market. All candidates were met and interviewed by Axon Moore on behalf of the CFO to ensure they were the right candidates before moving to a second stage interview internally.
Offers and acceptance were carefully managed in a challenging market to ensure a smooth transition and solid onboarding into the business.
Outcome:
Recycling Lives have developed at a rapid speed, accomplishing a lot of large scale projects from M&A, systems upgrades, restructures and further investment, and this has all been underpinned by having the right quality of finance talent.
