Marston Holdings – Recruitment Case Study:
Roles recruited:
- Accounts Receivable
- Accounts Payable
- Treasury Assistant
- Management Accountant
The Business
Marston Holdings is a London based group of companies with it’s beginnings set in enforcing court orders, almost 40 years ago and they now recover over £850m of taxpayer money annually. Further to that, they have grown organically and through acquisition to deliver a range of end-to-end services that support the implementation of public policy, using new technologies. They are committed to supporting clean living schemes, such as the implementation of electric charge points and smart energy meters. They also help enforce policies such as greener air zones and cycle lane monitoring through the use of ANPR. Other services include traffic and parking enforcement and streetscape design services and the list is growing!
Background to Exercise
Marston Holdings located their Shared Service Centre in Oldham and have quite substantial teams in all areas of finance. The relationship with Axon Moore at senior recruitment level has been great, however the resource and capacity to recruit the junior roles was given full focus during the Covid19 pandemic and momentum gained in early 2021. Due to growth, natural turnover of staff and internal moves, roles arose in 4 main departments and relationships were established with each manager. Each member of the team is instrumental to Marston Holding’s success, so the request was to appoint new hires that would learn quickly and add value to the team and the business, being involved in decision making and process improvement.
Our Response
After an initial briefing and introduction with the hiring manager, a full insight into the role, team, culture and business was gathered. A detailed search in the market proceeded and the aim was to telephone interview and meet candidates who fit into the criteria for the role, before a shortlist was created and shared with the hiring manager. The turnaround depends on the role, but can typically take 1 to 7 days to do. Interviews take place promptly as advised and the process is always carried out in a timely manner, ensuring risk is mitigated from candidates becoming unavailable in a rapidly moving market. Feedback is again prompt and comes back very detailed regardless if the candidate has been successful or not. Offer and acceptance following a successful interview has always been handled professionally and candidates have always received offer in-line with their expectations. This leads to a smooth and timely onboarding process which is handled by HR.
Outcome:
Since January 2021, a total of 9 permanent placements and 1 fixed term contract placement (initial 6 month, extended by a further 3 months) have been made at transactional level by Harriett Busby in the 4 teams, with 4 in the Management Accounts team, 3 in the Treasury Team and 2 in the Purchase Ledger team; all of whom are still employed and happy in their roles. Relationships with hiring managers are excellent and we currently have 1 live role in the Accounts Receivable team.
